Our approach is proactive, discussing and preventing issues before they arise. We believe this to be a quality of a true, collaborative partner. Through our early project involvement, we maximize opportunities in the design and inform the decision-making process that will shape the project outcome.

We listen to architects and builders and adopt practices and technologies that translate into real savings and sustainably minded strategies without diminishing the overall design vision.
Breadth & Depth
OFFSET Engineering was founded by Ben Varela and Katie Chuh in 2022 as an evolution from their previous company, where together they were responsible for the structural design of over 1,200 residential units in the Los Angeles area, along with a wide range of single-family, institutional, mixed-use and commercial projects.

Our experience includes a wide range of project types at different scales, from commercial, single, and multifamily to mixed-use, institutional, and educational work. By understanding the particular characteristics of each market sector in depth, OFFSET has been able to cross-pollinate structural solutions and find new creative opportunities for our projects.
Coordination & Documentation
All OFFSET’s projects are developed, coordinated, and documented in Revit | BIM 360. We have set specific workflows to interact with architects and consultants that use Archicad or a more traditional CADD platform. Our team is well-versed in Rhino, Dynamo, and Grasshopper whenever complex designs or geometries are required.
